Musings on Faith #50
A New Atheism
"Whosoever therefore shall confess me before men, him will I confess also before my Father which is in heaven. But whosoever shall deny me before men, him will I also deny before my Father which is in heaven (Matthew 10:32-33, KJV)." We have seen in the news recently a so-called poll in which it is reported that the number of Americans who profess a faith in God (whether Jew, or Christian, or Buddhist, or Muslim, or Mormon, or of some other faith) has dropped from ninety-two percent to eighty-five percent. This highly unreliable 'poll' was taken by an atheistic group which promotes the abolition of religion and religious rights in America, so please, readers, do not take it too seriously. At the same time, we must be aware that a war has been declared on religion, and especially on Christianity, by the humanistic elements in this Country. Atheists have become quite aggressive in attacking Christians, in particular. And the government in Washington is proposing measures which would have a dampening effect upon giving to Churches and faith-based organizations, as well as charities in general. People of faith, therefore, must defend one another's rights under the Constitution, so that freedom of religion, as guaranteed by our Founding Fathers, may not be legislated away or trampled under foot by those who deny God. Taking from one takes from us all. 'Divided we fall.'

And we who are Christians - blood-bought disciples of Christ - must not cower under the

evils of 'political correctness' and the new 'religion' of the State, but must, as Jesus Christ Himself instructed us, "confess [Him] before men". In other words, we must be strong in the faith, and faithful to proclaim our allegiance to Him, first and foremost. I believe that Christians tend to be the most stalwart patriots and defenders of liberty precisely because they first give their allegiance to God. It is the power given to us through surrendering to Him, through Christ, that gives us that indescribable freedom of the spirit to stand up for America, and for what she has stood for these past 233 years. Our first allegiance MUST be to our Heavenly Father, through our Lord Jesus Christ! He has commanded it, but it is not due to His command that we do so, but as an act of faith. Christ claims those who claim Him, and those who, under pressures of 'political correctness', or fear, or of not being accepted, or of 'social norms', deny Him, or, just as bad, fail to claim Him as Lord of their life, He will deny to our Father in heaven. We have been essentially free of persecution in this great Nation of ours for generations, but times are changing. No matter what comes, whether from government or from those who would deny us our rights, let us stand strong and stalwart and proclaim aloud, for all to hear, "Jesus Christ is Lord of my life!" Amen, and may God bless America, again.

Yours in Christ, Tom Woodard
