Time For a New Day
God said "If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land (2nd Chronicles 7:14, NIV)." It is time for the people of the United States of America to sober up, to face their wicked ways and to turn away from them, and to eschew the greed and selfishness which has brought us to this place in our Nation's history where we face the possible collapse of our economic system and the slide of our Country into relative obscurity.  America has sinned mightily in our selfishness and greed, our "I want it now" mentality, and our absurd notion of "entitlement". We must turn away from all of these nation-wide sins and return to a sense of purpose, duty, and responsibility. We need to rediscover the old work ethic that made this Country great and strong. We need to return to the days when all a man expected was an honest day's pay for an honest day's work. Both employers and employees need to rediscover the value of loyalty and trust. We need to find humility, and embrace patience and frugality. Our people must find the peace and security which is bound up in living free of debt and in saving. We must rediscover discipline, restraint, and common sense.

I have heard it said that if a young couple would save $100.00 per week, they would have accumulated a million dollars by the

time of their retirement. I've never done the math, but if a couple started doing this at age 25 and retired at age 65, they would have accumulated $213,200.00 in principle alone, and the interest on that sum, as it grew and compounded over such a span of time, would be enormous. And if they lived within their means, which was once the norm in America, saving such a sum, or even more, would not be difficult. A couple doing these things would also receive added bonuses, such as freedom from financial worries and a sense of security founded in reality. A further bonus would be the discovery that material things do not bring joy to one's life, but only momentary and false happiness. Do we need financial planners to achieve a balanced and responsible financial plan? No. All we need do is go to the Book of Proverbs in the Bible and we will find all the financial advice we need for responsible and prosperous living. It's all there, folks, I assure you!

If America is to survive we must turn from our wicked ways. We must take responsibility for our actions. We must humbly seek God, calling upon Him to lead us. And we must follow His leading. There's a song out now that says "Obama will lead us." No, he will not. But GOD will lead us, if we will let Him. It is time for a new day in America.

Yours in Christ, Tom Woodard
