God's Immutable Truth
I've been thinking a lot about truth the past few days. When I was a law student, in the early 70's, the conventional wisdom was that eye-witness testimony was the most dependable evidence that could be presented in Court. We now know that virtually the opposite is true. For example, if a collision between two automobiles occurs in a busy intersection, four people, standing on the four respective corners of that intersection, and all endeavoring to tell, to the best of their ability, the truth, will often relate four different "truths" of what happened. In centuries past, it was a known truth that the earth was flat, not spherical, and that the Sun and other planets revolved around the earth. We now know this to be an absurdity. Thousands of other examples could be given, if space would allow. So, what is truth? Will what is true today be true tomorrow?

There is only one immutable, infallible, unchanging Truth, and that is that Jesus Christ, the Son of God, was born of a virgin, by the Holy Spirit, lived on the earth as a man, ministered and taught for three short years, was crucified and died for our sins, as a once and forever blood sacrifice, on the third day arose victorious over the grave so that we might have eternal life, and sits at the right hand of His Father, God Almighty, as an Intercessor for our prayers and petitions to God. This is truth! All who have accepted

Jesus Christ as their personal Lord and Savior, and have experienced the indwelling of His Holy Spirit within them, know this truth. Jesus said "If you continue to obey my teaching, you are truly my followers. Then you will know the truth, and the truth will make you free (John 8:31-32, NCV)." What other truth do you know that can bring freedom such as this - freedom from death, and victory over sin? And again Jesus said "I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me (John 14:6, KJV)." Note that He said "I am . . . the truth".

Jesus is Truth! And this is a truth far beyond that which we may consider "truth" in a worldly sense, for so much of what is "truth" for the natural man, in the natural world, is actually relative, or conditioned on other factors. Not so the truth of God. That truth is an absolute, unchanging and everlasting. It is a truth which makes us truly free, undergirds us, saves us from our own frailties and failings, and gives us a life more abundant, free and joyful. It is a truth which sets us upon a solid rock, from which Satan and all the powers of darkness cannot dislodge us. Do you know this truth? It is available to you, just for the asking. Ask Him today (see John 3:16-17).

 Yours in Christ, Tom Woodard
