A Milestone
My Favorite Joke
by Tom Woodard
February 5th, 2010
Dear Friends & Family,
I feel that I have accomplished a milestone in my life yesterday and today. I have finally, with Angie's invaluable help, managed at last to get my office moved to our home in Eutaw. I have my computer set up on a little antique primitive table at a window of our bedroom, looking out on our backyard. It is nice to be able to work and at the same time to be able to get up and walk away from it whenever I feel the need - and to be right here at home.
The realization of this plan is of such significance to me that I wanted to share it with you all. I have a good outlook on whatever time the Lord has in prospect for me, and pray that He will use me in whatever ways He sees fit for me to serve Him and my fellow man. In whatever the future holds, you are all an essential and joyful part. Your friendship is more valuable to me than any material possession I might have or wish for. Thank you for allowing me to share this day with you.
Yours in Christ, Tom Woodard
Interesting that I should find myself wanting to share with you My Favorite Joke of All Time:
"Two Boats and a Helicopter"
"There was a man whose home was in the midst of a great flood, and when the waters had risen over his porch and were pouring into the first floor of the house, two men in a canoe came paddling by and urged him to get in, as the waters were rising. The man said, "No, the Lord will take care of me", so off the two men went, to rescue someone else.
As the waters kept rising, the man was forced to retreat to the second floor of his house, and he was looking out a second floor window at the rising waters when two men in a motor boat came up to the window and urged him to get in the boat, as the waters were still rising and it was too dangerous to stay where he was. The man, however, again said "No, my Lord will take care of me", and off the men went to rescue someone else.
Finally, the waters had risen so high that the man had been forced to climb to the roof of his house, and was sitting on the ridge of the roof when a helicopter flew up and hovered over the man. One of the men in the helicopter yelled down at him "Sir, grab the rope ladder and get in the helicoper. The waters are still rising, and you will surely be swept away". But the man said, once again, "No, the Lord will take care of me", and the rescuers in the copter reluctantly flew away, to rescue someone else.
The waters continued to rise, sweeping the man away, and he drowned. When he arrived in heaven and appeared before the Lord, he said "Lord, why didn't you save me?" and the Lord replied "Thou fool, I sent thee two boats and a helicopter!"
As you can see, there is much wisdom in this little story. Tom
